When closing an un-saved document, you’ll usually get the “Do you want to save changes to this document before closing?” dialogue box appear. It’s always bugged me that I have to using my mouse (or trackpad) to select one of the options in here: Save, Cancel or Don’t Save.
Here to keystrokes to activate any of these options:
Save: Return
Cancel: Escape
Don’t Save: Command + D
I guess, for any dialogue box that appears with more than the common ‘Save’ or ‘Cancel’ options, Command + initial of that option will probably activate that option.
On a PC, whilst browsing my files in Windows Explorer, I’d open a file by hitting Return or Enter. Up until now I’ve been using the trackpad every time I use Finder. Well, not any more! Here’s some useful shortcuts:
Select a file: arrow keys
Open the selected file/folder: Command + O.
Rename a file: Return or Enter
Up one folder: Command + up arrow
Down one folder (folder needs to be selected): Command + down arrow
New Finder window: Command + N
There are also shortcut keys for selecting the special folders (on the left) which can be found in the Go menu.

Nice tip!
I mean, knowing how to work with shortcuts is one way of being efficient.
Those little time do add up you know… (if doing it without shortcuts)
